The good news of the gospel of Christ, is that it is not the strength of our faith that saves us but rather the Object of our faith. Our trust is often weak, and we sometimes fail to believe that God cares for us, just as the disciples doubted Christ’s care for them (“[Jesus] was in the stern, asleep on the cushion. And they woke him and said to him, ‘Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?’ And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, ‘Peace! Be still!’ And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. He said to them, ‘Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith?’ ” (Mark 4. vv. 38–40).
Our salvation is not based on the power of our faith but on the power of our Omnipotent Savior. Let us remember that precious truth even as we endeavor to grow in our trust in the Lord.
